Study Spanish at EOI Málaga

Welcome! The Official Language School (EOI) of Málaga is a state-run center specializing in high-quality language training for adults. We offer official Spanish as a Foreign Language courses ranging from A1 to C1 levels.

 

Key Dates for Your Calendar

  • Application Period: May 1st to May 20th. You must apply during this window to be considered for a place in the next academic year.
  • Results: Admitted students will be announced at the end of June.
  • Registration: Typically begins in early July.
  • Course Start: Classes begin around September 20th.

APPLICATION GUIDE

To apply, you will need to provide the following:
1. Application Form: Downloadable right here on our website.

2. Identification: A photocopy of your Passport or ID (you must be at least 14 years old).
Note: If you are under 18, include a copy of a parent/tutor’s ID as well.

3. Proof of Level:

  • If you are a total beginner, you start at A1.
  • If you have prior knowledge, you must provide a previous certificate or take our online placement test.

Due to high demand for Spanish courses, places are assigned according to a priority system when the number of applicants exceeds available spots. To improve your chances, please provide documentation showing that you belong to one of the following groups:

Group 3 Student in the Andalusian system Proof of Enrollment
Group 4 Unemployed in Spain (< 6 months) SAE Certificate
Group 5 All other applicants / General Group Passport/ID

Important: For Groups 1–4, you must also include your academic qualifications (the minimum level is compulsory secondary education, ie your high school diploma from your country) to claim priority. No sworn translation is required for these qualifications. If this qualification is not handed in, you will be assigned to Group 5.

  • Modality: Spanish is taught in-person only (modalidad oficial presencial).
  • Schedule:5 hours per week (Annual courses) or 9 hours per week (Four-month intensive courses).
  • Fees: New students pay €81.41 for the entire course. If the student has previously been enrolled in an Andalusian EOI, the fees are 59.04. There  are futher reductions for certain cases, which you may check here.

Important: Fees are only paid after admission, during the July registration period. Any fees paid without a confirmed place will not be refunded

  • Residency: While our target is residents of Andalusia, we do not exclude future students who have not yet moved here.
  • Visas: The EOI does not handle visa applications. Please contact your local Spanish Consulate to see if our enrollment meets your specific visa requirements. Many visas require 20 hours/week, so enrolling with us in just Spanish will not be enough.

To be placed in a priority group for admission, you must provide specific documents. If you cannot provide these, or if you do not have a high school diploma (ESO equivalent), you will automatically be placed in Group 5.

  1. Professional Status
  • If Unemployed in Spain:
    • You must be registered as a job seeker with the Andalusian Employment Service (SAE).
    • Required: An official SAE certificate showing the date you first registered and confirming you are still currently unemployed.
  • If Working in Spain:
    • Required: A photocopy of your Social Security registration, plus a copy of your employment contract or tax license.
    • Tip: On the photocopy, write «It is faithful to the original,» followed by your ID number, date, and signature.
  1. Current Students in Andalusia
  • Eligibility: You must be enrolled in an official Andalusian center or university. This means you are enrolled in a center located in Andalusia offering any of the courses regulated in these laws: Ley Orgánica 2/2006, of May 3, of Education, or in the Ley Orgánica 6/2001, of December 21, of Universities.
  • Required: A certificate from your current school’s Secretary or a photocopy of your registration.
  1. Academic Qualifications & Grades

Your previous education helps determine your priority and breaks ties between applicants.

  • What to provide: A copy of your highest degree (University, High School/ESO, or Vocational Training).
  • Your Academic Record: We look at your average score.
    • If your diploma doesn’t show an average grade, please provide a school certificate that lists your individual marks.
    • We convert qualitative grades (like «Good») into numbers (e.g., Good = 6.5).
    • Note: Grades for Religion classes are not counted in the average.
  1. Annual Family Income
  • The Calculation: We take the total income of everyone in your «family unit» from 2025 and divide it by the number of members.
  • How to prove it: If you pay taxes in Spain, you can simply authorize us on the application form to check your data with the Tax Agency.
    • If the Tax Agency does not have your info, you must provide a «responsible declaration» or a certificate of assets.
  1. Disability Support
  • Requirement: A recognized disability of 33% or greater.
  • Required: An official certificate issued by the Junta de Andalucía or another public administration.

  • «What if I miss the May deadline?» We do have vacancy processes in September, but Spanish spots are very limited, and any openings are filled by applicants on the waiting list who submitted an application but were not initially offered a place.
